
Flashes Fall in Season Debut

College Park, MD.- The Golden Flashes opened the 2024-25 season with a pair of losses on Sunday against Bucknell, and host Maryland.
Kent State fell 35-9 to Bucknell. The lone wins came from Ethan Barr and Brentan Simmerman. Barr earned a pin, upsetting No. 14 ranked Noah Mulvaney in 5:30. Simmerman had to go to OT where he picked up a takedown to win 5-2 over Logan Shephard.
Maryland defeated the Flashes 29-10. The Flashes got three wins from Nico Calello, Eli Ashcroft, and Blake Schaffer. At 125, Calello overcame a 3-1 deficit in the 1st period to defeat Presden Sanchez 11-4 and gave the Flashes an early 3-0 lead. Ashcroft had a pair of takedowns to beat Clayton Gabrielson 6-2 as the Flashes reclaimed a 6-4 lead after the 141 lb. match. Blake Schaffer picked up his first victory of the season with a 10-2 major decision victory over Chase Mielnik.
Kent State will be back in action on Friday for their home opener against Gannon as a part of the "Flash Frenzy." Wrestling will start at 12:00 pm in the M.A.C Center.
