Flashes Finish Fourth at George Washington

WASHINGTON – The Kent State gymnastics team placed fourth at the George Washington quint meet on Friday night, posting a 195.125 team total.
Alyssa Guns earned her fourth top-three finish on floor with an electric routine in the final rotation, while Dani Fuertez, Zoe Rankin, and Gabby Riley all set or matched career-highs to lead the Golden Flashes.
ROTATION 1 – VAULT
Competing in Olympic order, the Flashes started the evening on vault. Charlie Behner matched her season high with a 9.875 to lead the way for Kent State, finishing just off the podium in fourth place. Kennedy Weinpert scored a 9.850 and has now gone 9.8+ in five straight meets. Nastia Rudnitskaya earned a 9.750 as the Flashes combined for a 48.775 team total.
ROTATION 2 – BARS
Dani Fuertez posted the highest score of her freshman campaign to lead the Flashes, earning a 9.800. Sarah Haxton scored a 9.775 while Behner added a 9.750. Kent State earned a 48.675 total in the event.
ROTATION 3 – BEAM
Gabby Riley and Heidi Schultz led the way for the Flashes in the third rotation, both scoring 9.850 to finish fourth. Schultz has scored 9.8+ in five of her six collegiate beam routines and has scored 9.850 in three consectutive meets, while Riley's result set a new career high. Sarah Haxton had another strong routine from the leadoff spot, scoring 9.725. Izzy Geig also made her Flashes debut in the third rotation, scoring 9.650 as the Flashes combined for a 48.500 total.
ROTATION 4 – FLOOR
Fresh off being named the Mid-American Conference Specialist of the Week, Alyssa Guns paced Kent State with a 9.900 in the final event. The junior tied for second in the event for the fourth time this season and has scored 9.9+ in back-to-back meets. Zoe Rankin matched her career high for the fourth time this season with a 9.850. Karlie Franz scored a 9.825 while both Fuertez and Schultz scored 9.800 as the Flashes posted a 49.175, their highest event score of the night.

UP NEXT
Kent State will return to Mid-American Conference action on Saturday, Feb. 24, when the Flashes make a trip up north to compete against Central Michigan. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
The Flashes will next compete within the friendly walls of the M.A.C. Center on Sunday, March 3, at 1 p.m. when the host Eastern Michigan as part of Hometown Heroes Day.
