
Flashes Mush Past Huskies, 37-5

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Golden Flashes won eight of the nine wrestled matches, including five bonus point victories in a lopsided 37-5 victory over the Bloomsburg Huskies on Saturday afternoon.
Kent State won two matches by technical fall and another three by major decision on Saturday afternoon. The Flashes opened the dual winning three matches by major decision and the fourth by forfeit. Adan Benevidez used a trio of takedowns and got the riding time bonus to defeat Bronson Garber 11-3 in a match that pitted the ninth and tenth ranked MAC wrestlers at 125 pounds.
Pablo Castro IV was dominant in his 17-4 major decision racking up three of his five takedowns in the first period to take control of the match. Matt Ryan followed suit with a nearly identical 17-5 victory at 149 pounds. Ryan had two takedowns in the first and two more in the third on the way to the one-sided win.
AJ Burkhart and Blake Schaffer each won by technical fall. Burkhart nearly ended the match in the first and second period with near falls but settled for stopping the match with a little under a minute left in the third. Schaffer was consistently dominant in his match, recording seven takedowns in a match that was stopped seconds into the third period.
Keegan Knapp and Aaron Ferguson put on defensive clinics with 5-1 and 5-0 decisions, respectfully. Josh Boggan got two early takedowns and that was more than enough in his 6-3 win.
The full results are below, and the win wraps up the road portion of the Flashes' regular season. Kent State opens a three-dual home stand next Friday night against Ohio, the annual Grudge Match starts at 7 p.m.
