Gilbert, Schultz Win as Flashes Finish Third at Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Kyndall Gilbert tied for the win on vault and Heidi Schultz earned two podium finishes, including a win on beam, as Kent State placed third at the All-Ohio Meet at Ohio State on Friday night.Â
The Golden Flashes posted a 196.125 team total, their second-highest road score of the 2024 campaign. The host Buckeyes, who entered the week ranked 15th in the nation, won the meet with a 196.825 while No. 23 Illinois placed second with a 196.325. Bowling Green posted a 194.275 to finish fourth.Â
ROTATION 1 – BARS
The Flashes started the evening on bars, combining for a 48.850 on the event. Heidi Schultz and Brynne Tsipis each scored a 9.825 to lead the way for Kent State. Schultz has now scored 9.8+ on bars four times during her sophomore campaign. Sarah Haxton added a 9.750 for the blue and gold.Â
ROTATION 2 – BEAM
Schultz paced the Flashes again in the second rotation, earning a career-high 9.900 to tie for the event title. This marks the second beam crown for Schultz this season. Haxton scored a 9.800 for the second consecutive meet, while Alyssa Guns began her meet with a 9.775. The Flashes combined for a 48.975 heading into the third rotation.Â
ROTATION 3 – FLOOR
Schultz and Karlie Franz earned a spot on the podium after earning a 9.875 apiece, finishing in a six-way tie for third place. Guns finished just behind them with a 9.850 and Dani Fuertez continued her strong run in the event with a 9.800. The Flashes posted a 49.125 team total and found themselves in third place heading into the final event.
ROTATION 4 – VAULT
The Flashes saved their best for last, posting their second-highest vault score of the season and highest event score of the night with a 49.175. Kyndall Gilbert earned the first event title of her senior campaign with a season-high 9.875. Kennedy Weinpert finished just off the podium in fourth place with a 9.850, while Nastia Rudnitskaya and Charlie Behner both scored 9.825. Ashley Morgan scored a 9.800, setting a new season and career high.
