
Flashes Place Trio on Scholar All-American List

KENT- A trio of Kent State wrestlers have earned Scholar All-America status as announced by the National Wrestling Coaches' Association.
Pablo Castro IV (Aerospace Engineering, Billy Meiszner (Entrepreneurship) and Blake Schaffer (Finance) all received the NWCA honor. The three sophomores were some of the winningest wrestlers for the Flashes as well this season. Schaffer won 25 matches, placed third at the MAC Championships and was an alternate for the NCAA Championships. Meiszner won 19 matches and Castro 16 as all three look to be staples for the Flashes both on and off the mat.
In order to receive NWCA Scholar All-American honors a wrestler must have a GPA of 3.2 or greater for the previous academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or greater.
Wrestlers must also meet at least one of the following wrestling criteria: NCAA Qualifier with a winning record; finish in the top six at the NCAA regional while competing in at least half of the team's schedule competitions and compiling a winning record; or win at least 67% of his matches while competing in at least 50% of his team's scheduled competitions.
