KENT, Ohio – Head Coach Rob Senderoff and the Kent State men's basketball program announced the signing of Marquis Barnett to the 2024 class on Wednesday afternoon.
Barnett will spend his last year of eligibility with the Flashes after spending three years at Presbyterian College. The Saginaw, Michigan native joins Deondre Jones, Jonas Nichols, Morgan Stafford, Anthony Morales, and Cian Medley as the newest members of the Flashes.
The senior guard ranked seventh in the Big South Conference in scoring after averaging 16.4 points per game last season, scoring in double-digits in 24 games and posting seven 20-plus point performances. A stalwart on defense, he led the Big South in steals per game (1.9) and ranked sixth in blocks per game (0.9). Barnett was the eighth player in Presbyterian history to earn All-Big South honors. In 2022, Barnett was a Big South All-Freshman team selection.
On November 20, 2024, he was named Big South Player of the Week after averaging 14.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.3 blocks per game in helping lead the Blue Hose to a 3-1 record that week with a home win over The Citadel, a road win over North Florida, and a neutral site win over Northwestern State.
"Marquis is a really physical guard who has improved every year offensively," Senderoff said. "He comes with a defensive mindset that can guard multiple positions. Marquis will help us in every aspect of the game."
