Golden Flashes Fall to Akron

KENT – The Kent State men's basketball team was bested by the University of Akron Zips on Friday evening by a final score of 81-71. A pair of Golden Flashes tallied double-digits as Jalen Sullinger recorded 23 points, while Anthony Morales scored 10.
The Zips took an early lead going on a 9-5 run by the first media timeout. The opening minutes were punctuated by a three from Anthony Morales. Before long the Zips pushed their lead to 15. The Golden Flashes made a dent in the Akron lead in the last 10 minutes of the first half bring it down to single digits. The Zips made the most of their possessions in the closing minutes of the half to lead 48-31 after 20 minutes. UA extended their lead in the opening minutes of the second half. With 10 minutes off the clock in the second half, the Flashes continued to press with Sullinger and Cli'Ron Hornbeak making buckets down the stretch. Akron ultimately maintained their cushion winning by an 85-71 final.
Sullinger led the Flashes in scoring with 23 points. It was his 61st career double-digit performance. Morales' 10 points marked his fourth double-digit performance of the season so far. Hornbeak led the Flashes in rebounding with eight. VonCameron Davis was second on the stat sheet with seven. It was his highest rebound total since grabbing eight against Buffalo on Jan. 10.
Kent State Men's Basketball will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 4 on the road against Eastern Michigan University.
