
Alvine Named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio – It was announced on Wednesday that Kent State sophomore gymnast Nene Alvine is this week's female Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week. Alvine won the all-around title at Kent State's last meet on Friday at Northern Illinois, tallying a season-high 39.150 and earning a 9.800 or better in three events.
Alvine tied for the event title on vault, earning a team-high 9.825. She tallied her second score of 9.800 or better to finish second on beam behind teammate Ashley Morgan. Alvine recorded her best score of the night on the floor, earning a career-high score of 9.875 to tie for second in the event behind teammate Alyssa Guns.
Beyond her great performance thus far in competition this season, Alvine has impressed in the classroom. Currently pursuing a degree in cybersecurity engineering, she boasts a 3.966 grade point average.
Alvine and the Flashes return to action on Saturday, February 15, as they head to Piscataway, New Jersey, to take part in a tri-meet with Big 10 opponents Rutgers and Michigan at 5 p.m.
