
KSU Men in Second After Day 1 at MAC Indoor T&F Championships

YPSILANTI, Mich. – Behind gold for Donovan Crawford, Kent State is second in the team standings after the first day of competition at the 2025 Mid-American Conference Men's Track and Field Championship.
The Golden Flashes totaled 33 points on Friday and are just one point behind Akron.
With gold already secured entering his final attempt in the weight throw, Crawford unleashed his best throw of the day with a mark of 63'-6". Jeremiah Newsom also earned two points in the competition and placed fifth with a throw of 55'-11.25".
Long jump was the highest scoring event of the day for Kent State, as Amare Hall and Alexandre Malanda combined for 15 points. Hall soared 23'-8.75" for second place, while Malanda took third with a personal-best mark of 23'-7.25".
The Flashes closed the day with a third-place finish for six points in the distance medley relay, as Dylan McBride, Beau Harkelroad, Caleb Bost and Isaac Perez finished the relay race in 10:13.27.
Joel Enander sits atop the heptathlon table with 2,975 points. Enander started the by placing first in the 60-meter dash (7.10), long jump (22'-9.25") and shot put (42'-2.75") before closing by clearing 6'-0.75" in the high jump. He takes a 67-point lead into Saturday. Linkon Tyrrell (2,647) and Mason Murphy (2,422) are also in contention to score points and sit fourth and sixth, respectively, entering the final three events of the competition.
Kent State had eight runners total nine qualifying spots during the prelim races. Sean Callahan Jr. qualified in both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Zavion Mattox also advanced in the 200m. Fabio Justo and Owen Miller moved on in the 400-meter dash. Zamen Siyoum, Harkelroad and Tyrrell all qualified in the 60-meter hurdles.
The final day of the championship meet will continue on Saturday with the heptathlon 60-meter hurdles at 10 a.m. Running events will start at 1:40 p.m. with the mile.
