
Three Flashes Place, Team Finishes 11th at MAC Championships

Trenton, NJ - The Kent State Golden Flashes finished with three placers and eleventh overall at the 2025 MAC Wrestling Championships this past weekend at Cure Insurance Arena.
Junior Blake Schaffer led the way for the Golden Flashes with a fourth place finish at 197 lbs. Schaffer opened the tournament with a 6-2 win over Ethan Wiant of Clarion. In the quarterfinals, he defeated George Mason's Tyler Kocak by decision 5-2 to reach the semifinals. Schaffer fell to Lock Haven's Tucker Hogan 9-1 in the semifinals but rebounded in the consolation semifinals with a 5-1 win over Nick Nosler of SIUE. Schaffer concluded his tournament with a 5-3 loss to Central Michigan's Luke Cochran to finish in fourth place.
Freshman Tyeler Hagensen finished in 6th place at 125 lbs. for the Flashes. Hagensen lost to Buffalo's Max Elton 4-2 in the opening round of the tournament but was able to rebound with two wins to secure a top 6 finish. Hagensen pinned Noah Michaels of Rider in 2:28. He then defeated Central Michigan's Grant Stahl 4-2 to advance to the consolation semifinals. In the consolation semifinals Hagensen was pinned by Drew Davis of SIUE. In the fifth place bout, Hagensen lost by technical fall, 18-1, to Chris Vargo of Edinboro.
Senior Jordan Decatur also finished in 6th place for Kent State at 141 lbs. Decatur received a bye to start the tournament and in the quarterfinals fell 5-4 to Anthony Ferraro of Edinboro. Decatur was able to rebound with a 10-6 win over Gianni Silvestri of Clarion to advance to the consolation quarterfinals. Decatur was able to pick up another win to guarantee a top 6 finish with a 12-5 win over Andy Lucinsky of Buffalo. Decatur dropped his consolation semifinal match to Danny Martinez of SIUE 10-6 and lost to George Mason's Dominic Hargove by technical fall 16-0 to finish in sixth.
Kent State finished in eleventh place overall with 29.5 team points. Lock Haven won the tournament with 121.5 points and Central Michigan was runner up with 113.
