Muncie, Indiana-Â The Kent State Soccer finished their five-game road trip with a win over the Ball State Cardinals on the road with a second half goal to win by a score of 1-0.
After solid defense on both ends for the half, the score held scoreless heading into the break with both teams producing good chances on their respective ends.
In the 61st-minute junior midfielder Samantha Miller sent a corner into play and senior defender Kelsey Salopek put the ball in the back of the net in a similar play in the goal they had last week against Bowling Green. The defense held for the final 29 minutes to give the Blue and Gold their first conference victory of the season on the road.Â
The difference in the game came off the corner kick from Samantha Miller and it benefited KSU that they tallied six corner kicks compared to just two for Ball State; five of those came in the second half for the Golden Flashes.Â
They also outshot the Cardinals by a count of 11-7, while holding the home team to just two shots on target. Leah Shaffer had a pair of saves for the Blue and Gold in her first conference win as the starting goalkeeper for the team.
