KENT, Ohio — The Kent State Golden Flashes capped off another impressive weekend series on Sunday, defeating Central Michigan 6-4 at Schoonover Stadium to complete their third sweep of the season and improve to 15-4 overall and 5-1 in MAC play. The Flashes' 15-4 start is the best through 19 games since the 2023 squad, which finished with 42 wins.
Kent State wasted no time, as Kolton Schaller delivered a two-run home run to right field in the bottom of the first, scoring Sawyer Solitaria, who had drawn a walk to put the Flashes ahead 2-0. Central Michigan answered with back-to-back solo home runs in the third from Cole Prout and Bryson Webb to tie the game, and a Miguel Correa Jr. sacrifice fly in the sixth gave the Chippewas a 3-2 lead heading into the seventh.
That's when the Flashes took over. With Central Michigan's bullpen having burned through its starter, Brody Williams stepped up with a two-run double to left field that plated Schaller and Solitaria to put Kent State ahead 4-3. Alejandro Covas then followed with a two-run single up the middle, scoring Williams and Nolan Belcher to push the lead to 6-3 and put the game firmly in hand. Covas finished the day 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Williams went 1-for-4 with two RBI of his own. Schaller added a home run and two RBI, and Solitaria reached base three times with three walks.
Ben Rabatin was solid in his five innings of work, striking out eight while allowing two runs on two hits. Nick Guidas, Brody Krzysiak, and Caden Leonard handled the final four innings in relief. Krzysiak earned the win to improve to 1-1, and Leonard picked up his first save of the season despite a Harrison Bowman solo shot in the ninth that made it a two-run game.
