KENT, Ohio – Kent State freshman reliever Peyton Williams has been named to the 2026 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Midseason Stopper of the Year Watch List, the organization announced Wednesday. Williams is one of 61 relief pitchers from across the country to earn a spot on the midseason list for the 21st annual award.
Williams has been one of the Mid-American Conference's most reliable arms out of the bullpen in his first collegiate season. The freshman right-hander owns a 2.03 ERA across 12 appearances, striking out 20 batters in 13.1 innings of work while holding opposing hitters to a .191 batting average. He has recorded four saves on the year, posting a 2-0 record with nine walks and just three earned runs allowed.
Kent State enters the second half of MAC play with one of the conference's most dynamic bullpen combinations, and Williams has been a major impact on the Golden Flashes' pitching success in 2026.Â
The NCBWA will announce the Stopper of the Year finalists on Wednesday, June 3, with the winner to be named on Friday, June 12, at the 2026 Men's College World Series.
