CLEVELAND, Ohio – Kent State baseball catcher Brody Williams was named the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Player of the Week, following his performances in the Flashes' 4-0 week at Pittsburgh and Akron.
Williams put together one of the most productive weeks in the MAC, slashing .588/.619/.941 across four road games with 10 hits, six runs scored, seven RBI, three doubles, a home run, two walks, and two stolen bases all away from home.
The catcher opened the week on April 29 at Pittsburgh, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and a pair of stolen bases in a Golden Flashes victory that marked the fourth time this season Kent State defeated a Power Four opponent. Williams brought a hit-by-pitch and a walk into his on-base total as well, finishing the day on base in all five plate appearances.
Williams then carried that momentum into a three-game series at Akron, delivering in every contest. He went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in the series opener on May 2, then backed it up with back-to-back multi-hit efforts in the May 3 doubleheader, going 2-for-4 with a double in Game 1 and 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI in Game 2.
Over the four-game stretch, Williams reached base at a .619 clip and slugged .941, providing the backbone of a Kent State offense that went a combined 4-0 on the road.Â
