Jody Caldwell
Track and Field
A native of Nitro, W. Va, Caldwell was a four year track & field standout for Kent State from 1989-92. She was named the Mid-American Conference Outstanding Performer at the 1992 Outdoor Championship, winning titles in the high jump (5-8.5) and heptathlon (5,133 points). A member of the 1989 U.S. national heptathlon team, she still sits second all-time at Kent State in the indoor high jump (5-10 ½) and outdoor high jump (5-10 ½).Â
John Densevich
Track and Field
Densevich was an All-American in the shot put for Kent State in 1997 when he finished 12th in the nation (58-1.25). A MAC Champion in the indoor shot put (58-2 in 1997) and outdoor shot put (58-1.75 in 1998) he was selected to the Indoor Academic All-MAC First Team in 1996 & 1997. A product of Youngstown, Ohio and Austintown Fitch High School, Densevich was the recipient of the Merle Wagoner Award in 1998 recognizing the Kent State senior male student-athlete who has demonstrated the most exceptional combined qualities of leadership, athletic ability and academic performance.
Sean Freeman
Baseball
A two-time First Team All-MAC honoree and career .330 hitter, Freeman was part of MAC Championship Teams in 1992, 1993 & 1994. The Golden Flashes all-time leader in putouts, he led the team in RBI in 1993 & 1994 and also ranks second in career walks. The Andover, Ohio and Pymatuning Valley native was drafted in the 42nd round by the Detroit Tigers
Todd Lancaster
Golf
During his four-year career, Lancaster was part of three MAC Championship teams and twice helped lead the Golden Flashes to the NCAA Finals. After coming to Kent State from Oxford, Ohio and Talawanda High School, he was tagged the MAC Freshman of the Year in 1995. He went on to earn first team all-league honors in 1995, 1996 and again in 1997 when he was also an All-District selection.
Marci Ridenbaugh
Softball
The Golden Flashes all-time leader in stolen bases, Ridenbaugh was named a Third Team All-American as a freshman in 2001. The two-time First Team All-MAC performer also was awarded Academic All-American First Team distinction in 2004 and Academic All-District IV First Team honors in 2003. In addition to her stolen bases, the Canton, Ohio product still ranks second at Kent State in career hits, fourth in at-bats and sixth in runs scored.
Demetric Shaw
Men’s Basketball
One of only four Kent State men’s basketball players to have his number retired, Shaw is the only two-time MAC Defensive Player of the Year in league history winning the award in 2001 and 2002. Hailing from Fort Worth, Texas he racked up 853 points in his three years while leading Kent State to four NCAA Tournament wins. His senior year of 2001-02 he was part of the most successful team in MAC history advancing to the NCAA Elite 8 and posting a 30-6 record.
Lindsay Shearer
Women’s Basketball
A well honored student-athlete on and off the court, Shearer was the 2006 CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year which capped off a senior season in which she was the MAC Player of the Year and also named to All-America Teams by Kodak and the Women’s Basketball News. An Academic All-American in 2004 & 2005 as well, she still holds the Kent State single game scoring record with her 44 point performance against Bowling Green in the 2005 MAC Championship game. A native of Minerva, Ohio she totaled 1,799 career points ranking her fourth all-time at Kent State.Â
Gabby Wedding
Women’s Golf
The MAC Golfer of the Year in 2004 & 2005,Wedding was a four-time First Team All-MAC honoree while playing for four consecutive MAC Championship teams. The Wilmington, Ohio product was the individual medalist at the 2004 MAC Championship as one of her three career victories. Wedding was a Second-Team Academic All-American as a junior and senior and still ranks among the top 10 in the Kent State record book in several statistical categories.
