41st Varsity "K" Hall of Fame Induction
On Oct. 26, Kent State inducted its 2019 class into the Varsity “K” Hall of Fame. The 41st induction ceremony took place in the Kent State Student Center Ballroom with emcee Jeff Kurtz. Herb Page became the first person to be inducted into the Varsity "K" Hall of Fame as both an athlete (1985) and a coach (2019). This year’s Hall of Fame class included Debbie Bell (Field Hockey, 2008-11), Scott Miller (Men's Soccer, 1974-77), Herb Page (Coach & Administrator, 1978-2019), Kristin Peters (Gymnastics, 2005-08), Nate Reinking (Men's Basketball, 1993-96) , Jacqueline Rodgers (Women's Track & Field, 2002-06), Greg Rohan (Baseball, 2005-09), and Ryan Yip (Men's Golf, 2003-06)
In addition to the inductees above, the 1984 Men’s Golf Team received Team of Distinction honors. Dr. Jack Schiller was honored as the Varsity “K” person of the year. Bill and Eddye White were named Honorary Varsity “K” Members and George Jenkins was awarded Distinguished Athletic Alumnus.
Every inductee made the trip back to Kent and 11 of the team of distinction members were recognized at the ceremony and on the field at halftime. It was wonderful to see some of Kent State's greatest in one room.

The 2019 Varsity "K" Flashback All Sports Reunion
Former Kent State student-athletes- We hope you were able to attend the 8th Annual Varsity "K" FLASHBACK All Sports Reunion on September 21st at Dix Stadium and help cheer on your Golden Flashes.
This event was the largest one to date with over 500 former student-athletes and their families in attendance! We enjoyed sharing the experience with you and the joy it brought everyone to reconnect and reminisce with former teammates about the great times they had here at Kent State University. Bellacino's Pizza & Grinders brought plenty of food to keep the guests fed and enjoying their time accompanied by a generous donation from Pepsi. It was a beautiful day and Kent State Football took down Bowling Green with ease by a score of 62-20.
Current and former Varsity sports programs were represented at this event, uniting teams of the past and student-athletes and coaches. No matter where you go, you will always be a member of the Kent State Golden Flashes! #FlashesForever
The Golden Flashes are Looking Forward to Thanking YOU!

Five Things I Can't Travel Without
Being a student-athlete is hard enough! And then when you add the travel that goes along with it, it can be stressful. Making sure to have all the necessities is important. Volleyball Senior, Myla King, and volleyball Sophmore, Dani Tyson, share the five things they can't travel without.
|
was and is so welcoming to me. It sounds cheesy but it really is my home away from home since I’m from North Carolina. The resources here are so amazing and helpful." MYLA KING 1. I always like to travel with my neck pillow. 2. I have to have headphones. I usually listen to calming music while preparing for games. I have a very chill playlist. I listen to a lot of Khalid. I can't be too amped because I won't be as focused on the game. 3. I always have a blanket to take with me. 4. I take a lot of hair products with me. 5. Most importantly, my skin regime. I use African black soap, witch hazel, rose water, 2 facial scrubs, moisturizers, 2 body lotions, and my lash serum. |
|
to take trips like the one I took to Costa Rica for Courts for Kids last winter break. Just being on the team I've gotten to see the Liberty Bell, Niagara Falls, and this year we got to play at the army base, West Point, which was really cool. We get to go on a trip to Europe this summer too. It’s given me plenty of opportunities to see amazing places." DANI TYSON 1. I couldn't travel without my Beats headphones. I'll listen to hype rap songs to get me pumped up. Right now, I really like the song "Baby" by Quality Control, Lil Baby, and Da Baby. 2. I also like to travel with a cool pair of socks. I'm starting to get on this trend now. Actually, my favorite pair right now have sloths on them with gold chains on their necks. 3. I like to have my Kent State baseball cap. 4. I have to have snacks. We eat a lot of PB&J's. We'll bring loaves of bread on the bus and make them. Also, I'll eat a lot of Nature Valley almond butter biscuits and fruit snacks. 5. I have a comfy pair of sweatpants I always wear when we travel. |
