2010 Sophomore Season Highlights
•Started all 59 games he appeared in.
•Batted .330 with 76 hits, 22 doubles, 15 home runs, 60 RBIs and 60 runs scored. His 15 round trippers tied for the 10th most in a single-season in school history.
•Drew 49 walks to lead both the team and the conference and rank 26th in the nation. His number of free passes ranks tied for third on the school's single-season records list, and his 0.83 walks per game ranked 36th in the nation.
•Tallied 17 multi-hit games -- including eight games with at least three or more hits.
•Cracked a personal season-high four hits -- including two doubles -- with an RBI and a run scored vs. Eastern Michigan (5/26) in the MAC Tournament.
•Posted 16 games with two-or-more RBIs, totaling a personal season-high of five in the 13-10 season opening win at Western Kentucky (Feb. 19). Went 3-for-5 with a double and a home run in the victory over the Hilltoppers.
•Went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Kent State's 16-10 win at Winthrop (3/20) in the Coca-Cola Classic.
•Drove in four runs and scored two himself to go along with a round tripper against Pittsburgh (4/7) as the Flashes downed the Panthers, 19-6.
•Posted three RBIs in three straight contests after bashing a home run and scoring two runs in game two of a doubleheader against Ohio (5/2), going 3-for-5 with a homer and two runs scored against Niagara (5/4) and launching two round trippers at Miami (5/7).
•Competed for the Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod League in summer ball, helping the squad capture the league's Western Division title and earning Player of the Week honors (6/28) following a four-game stretch in which he hit .714 with a .775 on-base percentage, two home runs and seven RBIs. Finished the season with a .260 batting average with 33 hits, seven doubles, one triple, three home runs, 17 RBIs and 19 runs scored.
2009 Freshman Season
•Appeared in 52 games with 31 starts.
•Tallied 45 hits -- including seven home runs -- for a .331 average.
•Hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth to lift Kent State to a 13-9 win over Northern Illinois (4/5).
•Posted two hits in four at-bats against Toledo in the MAC Tournament (5/23), driving in what proved to be the game-winning RBI with a home run in the first.
•Smashed a two-run home run to right field against Cal Poly in the NCAA Tournament (5/30) to help KSU defeat the Mustangs 10-9.
•Played for the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League champions, the Cincinnati Steam, in summer ball. Tallied a RBI on a bases loaded walk to propel the Steam to a title.
•Finished with a .247 average and 23 hits (five of which were round-trippers).
Prior to Kent State
•Competed for Washington Courthouse High School under head coach Rob Smith.
•Helped the Blue Lions win three South Central Ohio League baseball titles while also leading them to sectional and district championships in the Ohio state tournament.
•Was named a First Team All-SCOL, first team all-district and a First Team All-Ohio honoree his junior and senior years. Hit .560 his senior year with 52 RBI, 14 doubles and nine home runs after batting .544 (43-for-79 from the plate) his junior season with four home runs and 25 RBI. Also named to the Mizuno All-Ohio Team and was a two-time Team Ohio representative.
•Also lettered in basketball, football and golf while at Washington Court House.
•Drafted in the 32nd round of the 2008 MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox in Major League Baseball’s first year player’s draft in June of 2008.
Personal
•Born April 16, 1990.
•Parents are Jeff and Julie Shaw. Siblings are Molli and Griffin.
•Father played professional baseball from 1986-2001 and was a right-handed pitcher with the Cleveland Indians, Montreal Expos, Los Angeles Dodgers and the Cincinnati Reds
•Was a member of the Academy of Scholars five of six years.
•Also volunteered as an assistant coach for third, fourth and fifth grade basketball.
•Majoring in sports administration.
