Payton began working with the Kent State Equipment staff in 2011 as a student worker. In 2013, Payton was hired on full-time and took on responsibilities in the MAC Center. With the completion of the Field House locker room project in 2014, Payton’s responsibilities shifted as he took on the Field House equipment services and worked with field hockey, soccer, softball, men’s & women’s track & field, cheerleading/dance.Â
In addition to his equipment services role, In 2015 Payton was hired as the Head of Spirit Program Operations, which includes providing administrative services for all members of the Cheerleading and Dance Team programs, as well as assistance in coaching both teams. Payton also received the Golden Flash of the Month award in February 2014, which is voted upon by the student athlete members of SAAC and is presented to an athletic department staff member that exemplifies excellent work and student-athlete support that often goes unnoticed. Â
Payton accepted another role in August 2016. Payton became the Head Cheerleading Coach and providing oversight over both Cheerleading in Dance. In addition to coach, Payton was also hired as the Assistant Director of Athletic Marketing.
August of 2017, Payton was hired as the Spirit Program Sports Administrator. Payton continues his position as Assistant Director of Athletic Marketing.

Payton will complete his Bachelor of Science degree at Kent State University in December of 2017, and resides in Brimfield.
