Macky MacPherson took over as Kent State’s running backs coach in January of 2018 and is entering his second season with the Golden Flashes.
MacPherson saw the emergence of Jo-El Shaw at the position as he totaled nine touchdowns and ran for 657 yards.
MacPherson followed current head coach Sean Lewis from Syracuse where he spent the previous two seasons as an offensive graduate assistant. In 2017, the Orange offense averaged 456.3 yards and 24.4 first downs per game.
Prior to Syracuse, MacPherson spent one season as a graduate assistant at Louisiana Tech, helping the Bulldogs finished 9-4 with a win over Arkansas in the New Orleans Bowl.
As a player, MacPherson was a four-year letterwinner at Syracuse and a two-time Big East All-Academic Team selection and an academic all-district selection. He was an All-ACC Second Team selection in 2013 and was inducted into the National Football Foundation’s Hampshire Honor Society.
A three-year starter at center and senior captain for the Orange, MacPherson helped his team to three bowl wins in his four seasons and was named All-ACC Second Team his senior season. He graduated from Syracuse with a bachelor’s degree in geography in 2013.
Macky is the grandson of former Syracuse and New England Patriots’ head coach Dick MacPherson, a 2009 College Football Hall of Fame inductee. Macky’s younger brother, Cameron, also played football at Syracuse.
