Tommy Luce is in his second season as the Assistant Coach for Player Development for Kent State University Men's Basketball. Luce works heavily with the development of the program’s players, especially the big men. He is also responsible for the teams on-campus operations, assistance with opponent scouting, player film breakdown, and individual workouts.
During the 2024-2025, Luce was part of a Kent State team that posted a 24-12 season record, finished third in the MAC standings, and reached the quarter finals of the National Inviatation Tournament. This was behind a powerful senior class that saw VonCameron Davis, Jalen Sullinger, and Cli’ron Hornbeak earn All-MAC honors. He has also been instrumental in the development of Delrecco Gillespie, who is primed for a breakout season in 2025-2026.
Before joining the Golden Flashes, Luce spent three seasons as a Graduate Assistant coach at Purdue University as a part of Matt Painter’s staff from 2021-2024. While at Purdue, Luce handled much of the on-court player development of the team. He worked closely with All-Americans Jaden Ivey and Braden Smith, as well as the back-to-back National Player of the Year, Zach Edey. During this time, Purdue won two Big Ten regular season championships, one Big Ten tournament championship, and was the 2024 National Runner-Up. The Boilermakers had a record of 93-19 during these seasons.
Luce played collegiately at Purdue University from 2016-2020. He competed on three NCAA tournament teams that reached the Sweet Sixteen twice and Elite Eight once, while winning a pair of Big Ten regular season championships. During his time as a player, the program posted an overall record of 99-40.
Luce is a native of Jeffersonville, Indiana. His dad, Joe, and uncle, Matt, are long-time Indiana high school basketball head coaches. He comes from a background of many ties within the state.
