Former Lehigh standout and assistant coach Matt Logie joins the Kent State program this year as the Golden Flashes’ director of basektball operations. In addition, he will also serve as an academic counselor for the basketball team.
“I’m very excited to be joining the Kent State program at this time,” Logie said. “Coach Christian and his staff have developed one of the winningest programs in the country in recent years and I look forward to contributing to the future success of Kent State basketball.”
In his role of director of basketball operations, Logie will be responsible for the day-to-day business of the program including budget planning, travel arrangements, film exchange coordination, opponent scouting, on-campus recruiting, individual skill development and summer camps.
As an academic counselor, Logie will be responsible for monitoring team study tables and advise team members on career planning and coursework, working as an extension of the office of Academic Services and dealing with the players’ academic interests on a daily basis.
“I feel very fortunate to attract a person with the basketball and academic background that Matt has to our athletic department and, more specifically, our basketball program,” head coach Jim Christian said. “His experience in working with student-athletes, academic and career advising and strategic planning will enhance our entire program.”
After a very productive playing career at Lehigh, Logie joined coach Billy Taylor’s staff as director of basketball operations prior to the 2003-04 season. He spent the next two seasons on the staff as an assistant coach while also working towards his master’s degree in Educational Leadership.
As a player, Logie was one of only three players in school history to be recognized on the All-Patriot League Rookie Team as well as earn All-Patriot League honors the following three seasons. He finished his career as the Mountain Hawks all-time leader in three-pointers made (262) and ranks seventh in school history and 11th in Patriot League in career scoring (1,524 points). He played professionally for one season in the United States Basketball League.
Logie played his high school ball at Mercer Island High School near Seattle for his grandfather and legendary high school coach Ed Pepple. Pepple, a 46-year coaching veteran, recently won his 900th career game and has four state titles to his credit.
He and his wife, Jill, live in Stow.
