2009-2010: Kent State gymanstics head coach Brice Biggin is pleased to welcome back Kristin Peters as a graduate assistant coach for the 2009-10 school year.
“The coaching staff is excited,” said Biggin. “To not only bring back someone of that caliber, but also to bring back a quality person in Kristin Peters is huge. We are really looking for her to help our younger athletes and to help us to take another step to becoming a better team.
In 2007 and ‘08, Peters won Mid-American Conference championships on both bars and beam. She joins Shelly Stambaugh and Michelle Naessig (both with five) as the only KSU gymnasts with four or more MAC titles. She is also the only KSU gymnast to win two conference titles on beam and only the second to win twice on bars (Naessig on bars 1996-97).
With the hiring of Peters, three of the four current gymnastic coaches have competed for and graduated from Kent State. She joins head coach Brice Biggin and assistant coach Thomas Ward in this regard.
Competing on vault, bars and beam during her athletic career, Peters will assist on all events.
“Even though she didn’t compete on floor, she will be able to watch a floor routine, pick out the good and tell some of the athletes what they need to do to make their routine better,” explained Biggin. “We will try to use her everywhere and see where she is most comfortable at.
“She understands the team sport of gymnastics so well and displayed that so well when she was here. We are thrilled to have her back with us” said Biggin.
Peters is seeking her masters in sports managent and resides in Kent, Ohio.
