Angel Matute joined the Golden Flashes as the offensive line coach beginning Spring 2025.
Before his move to Kent State, Matute spent the 2024 season at Purdue University as the assistant offensive line coach. In West Lafayette, he spearheaded install meetings, crafted run-game and protection plans, and contributed to weekly opponent breakdowns and academic support initiatives.
From 2022 to 2023, Matute served as a graduate assistant at the University of Minnesota, where he played a key role in run-game scheming, protection-drawings, scout team leadership, and pressure-performance analysis.
Matute’s coaching career began at Missouri. After concluding his playing days, he transitioned into an offensive student assistant role—helping with opponent scouting and offensive line prep. His on-field roots include standout play at Mt. San Antonio College, earning First Team All-Conference honors, and contributions at the University of Missouri in 2019 before a medical retirement.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in General Studies from the University of Missouri and was selected for the prestigious 2024 Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship with the San Francisco 49ers.
