Burkeen began his career with Kent State as an Organizational Specialist in October 2012. In August 2013, Burkeen transitioned to become the Assistant Learning Specialist for Men’s Basketball. Since that time, he has taken a promotion to be a full-time Learning Specialist for Men’ Basketball and Football, while also becoming the Lead Organizational Specialist and AARC Supervisor for the department. During his time as a Learning Specialist, the Men’s Basketball program has set a semester record G.P.A. in back-to-back semesters (Spring/Fall 2014) and the Football program set a G.P.A. record for the spring 2015 semester.

Burkeen is a graduate of Kent State University with a B.A. in Education and is currently pursuing a M. Ed. Degree in Higher Education Administration. Burkeen is a native of Reynoldsburg, Ohio and currently resides in Stow, Ohio with his wife Valerie and their two children Reagan and J.B. Burkeen came to Kent State after a decade-long career as a golf professional. Burkeen continues to conduct individual golf lessons and works with a manufacturing company in his spare time.
