CLEVELAND- Kent State freshman pitcher Emma Johnson (Groveport, Ohio) was named to the All-Mid American Conference Second Team Tuesday, as voted upon by conference coaches. Johnson and outfielder Dani Ramos (South Euclid, Ohio) were also both named to the MAC All-Freshman Team.
Earlier on Tuesday, College Sports Madness tabbed Johnson as MAC Freshman of the Year. Johnson ranks 49th in the nation in strikeouts per innings (7.9) and her 212 strikeouts are already the seventh most in a season at Kent State.
Carrying on Kent State's pitching tradition, Johnson becomes the fourth different Flashes' hurler since 2007 (Brittney Robinson, Kylie Reynolds, Gabe Burns) to earn all-conference honors. Ranking second in the MAC in strikeouts, third in saves and fourth in ERA (2.22), Johnson has won 15 games. She earned MAC East Pitcher of the Week honors on two different occasions.Â
Ramos carried a team best .345 batting average in conference play. The speedy left fielder leads the Flashes with 11 stolen bases. Her .433 on-base percentage in MAC play was also a team best. A solid defensive player as well, Ramos has thrown out three runners from left field.
The Golden Flashes open the Mid-American Championships Wednesday against Central Michigan at 1:30 p.m. inside Firestone Stadium.
