Kent State University sophomore outside hitter Danielle Holt (Galion, Ohio/Galion) was selected to the All-Mid-American Conference (MAC) Volleyball First Team, the league office announced Wednesday (Nov. 18). Holt is the first Golden Flash to garner first-team honors since both
Becky Neglia and Nicole Collias did in 1997.
Holt, an all-MAC second team selection in 2002, leads the MAC in aces per game (0.61) and is second in kills (4.93) and points per game (5.54). Her 527 kills this year are a school record and is tied for the 13th most in league history. She also became the 10th Kent State player to eclipse 1,000 career kills with 1,022.
Holt produced 45 kills against Western Michigan University in the first round MAC tournament match Nov. 18, which set a school, conference and tournament record. That kills mark currently leads the nation with highest number of kills in a match and is tied for 13th all-time in NCAA history for kills in a five-game match.
The Kent State volleyball team, under the direction of head coach Mora Kanim, finished the 2003 season with an 12-14 overall mark, and an 8-8 conference record. The Golden Flashes tied for third in the MAC East Division.
