Carey Davis, a former Stow-Munroe Falls High School standout, has been named the assistant volleyball coach at Kent State University, head coach Mora Kanim announced Friday (May 30). Davis will have day-to-day responsibilities for the setters and other aspects of the program.
Carey is going to bring a tremendous amount of knowledge, energy, enthusiasm and a passion for volleyball to our staff, Kanim said. We are looking forward to working with such a talented coach from this area.
Davis is no stranger to Kent State, having served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Golden Flashes last season. She also was a volleyball intern for KSU during the summer of 2001.
Davis was a three-year letterwinner at East Tennessee State University from 1999-2001 and was the team captain for two years. As a setter, she earned All-Southern Conference honors for three seasons and was named the 2001 Southern Conference Player of the Year.
After graduating from ETSU with a bachelors degree in physical education, she coached the Junior Olympic Volleyball Team in Johnson City, Tenn., for two years.
At Stow, she was a four-year starter and letterwinner that led the squad to a berth in the state finals. She was named the All-Ohio Volleyball Player of the Year in 1998 and was a selection on the All-State first team for two years.
The Kent State volleyball team opens the 2003 season against Indiana University Aug. 29 at the Hurricane Invitational in Miami, Fla.
