Soccer Ties Weber State, 1-1

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Kent State University soccer team (0-0-1) opened the 2003 season with a 1-1 tie in double overtime against Weber State University (0-0-1) in the opening game of the Arizona Invitational today (Aug. 29). Senior forward Lauren Caminati (Solon, Ohio/Solon) scored the Golden Flashes' lone goal in the 17th minute, moving with one point of the all-time scoring lead in KSU history.
Caminati scored off a setup by sophomore Jenn Frey (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy), who sent a cross from the right side to the left of the goal mouth where Caminati knocked it home for her 21st career tally. Weber State would knot the game at 1-1 in the 62nd minute when Anna Neisen scored.
Freshman Shannon Lynn (Brampton, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) played the first half in goal for Kent State but was not forced to make a save. Freshman Alicia Fernandez (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) went the rest of the way, making one stop and allowing a goal.
Kent State outshot Weber State 16-10 in the contest, and also had more shots on goal 8-2. Kandice Golar made seven saves in goal for Weber State. Caminati paced KSU with five shots, four on goal, while senior Sara Figuly (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) had two shots on goal.
The Golden Flashes conclude the Arizona Invitational Sunday, Aug. 31, when the play host University of Arizona at 2 p.m. PDT.
