AKRON, Ohio -- After playing scoreless for more than 86 minutes, senior forward Lauren Covay (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) scored with 3:36 to play to give the Kent State University soccer team a 1-0 victory against archrival University of Akron tonight (Sept. 26). The Golden Flashes (7-1-1, 5-0-0 Mid-American Conference) matched their all-time high with their fifth MAC win of the season. The victory against the Zips (2-6-1, 1-4-0 MAC) was Kent State's seventh in a row, which is also an all-time best.
Covay's goal, her third of the season, broke the scoreless deadlock in an evenly played match. The Golden Flashes outshot Akron 10-6 and had nine corner kicks to Akron's five, as the teams played a hard-fought game that was KSU's fourth one-goal game of the year and Akron's fifth straight.
Freshman keeper Shannon Lynn (Brampton, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) made two saves for her third shutout of the season. She improved her record to 4-0-0 on the year, and lowered her goals-against average to 0.60. The shutout was team's MAC-best fifth of the season.

The Golden Flashes are next in action on Tuesday, Sept. 30, when they play a non-conference match at Robert Morris University. The game will be KSU's fourth straight on the road.
