MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- The Kent State University soccer team (8-1-1) won its eighth straight game with a 3-0 win at Robert Morris University (2-8-0) today (Sept. 30). The Golden Flashes got all the offense they would need in the game's first 21 minutes, scoring three goals, with two coming from senior forward Lauren Covay.
Kent State got on the board 8:47 into the contest, when senior midfielder Uma Ramadorai (Tucson, Ariz./Canyon Del Oro) played the ball to senior midfielder Kacy McMillan, who took a shot at goal. Covay redirected McMillan's shot in the box for her fourth goal of the year. Just over six minutes later, Covay scored off a pass from junior midfielder Nikki Lichtenfeld (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley). It was Covay's fifth of the year, and third straight KSU goal scored by Covay during the last two games.
Senior forward Lauren Caminati (Solon, Ohio/Solon) closed the scoring in the 21st minute. Caminati took a header delivered by junior midfielder Jenn Frey (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy), recording her fourth goal of the year.
Freshman Alicia Fernandez (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) and junior Misty Kulcsar (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) combined on the shutout for the Golden Flashes. Each made one save, with Fernandez playing 67 minutes, while Kulcsar played 23 minutes in the first action of her career. Fernandez earned the win to improve to 4-1-1 on the year.
Kent State outshot Robert Morris 23-3 in the game, and had seven corner kicks, while the Colonials did not register one.
The Flashes are next in action when they return to the KSU Soccer Field to host Western Michigan University, Friday, Oct. 3, in a Mid-American Conference match. Game time is 4 p.m.
