de Fries Becomes KSU's All-Time Winningest Coach

The Kent State field hockey team (2-2) dealt Towson University (2-1) their first loss of the young season at Dix Stadium today (Sept. 7). With the victory, head coach Kerry de Vries earns the title of winningest coach in school history with a total of 99.
Down 2-0 just under the midway point of the first half, the Golden Flashes countered with three unanswered goals to take the win.
Senior Andrea Schlezes accounted for all of the Tigers scoring, striking on two unassisted goals. Her first tally came just over two minutes into the game and her second goal at the 17:27 mark in the first half put Towson up 2-0.
Senior Rebecca Rahaim (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) scored her first of the season on a putback of freshman Berber Reischens (Rotterdam, The Netherlands) shot to make it 2-1 with 35 seconds left in the first half.
Senior Jennifer Melnyk (Delta, B.C./South Delta) took over in the second half, scoring the game-tying goal from deep on the right side and then hitting the game winner off a penalty corner with 7:18 left in the first half.
Kent States senior goalkeeper Jessica Creeden (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) had four saves on six shots to earn the victory and Towson senior Loren Wolf was peppered with 15 shots, making 12 stops in taking the loss.
de Vries is now 99-39-0 (.717) in her career.
The Golden Flashes begin an eight-game road stretch, their longest of the season, at James Madison University on Friday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m.
