Gymnastics Picked First in MAC Preseason Poll

The Kent State University gymnastics team has been picked to win the 2004 Mid-American Conference (MAC) regular-season title according to the MAC Gymnastics Preseason Coaches Poll, announced Friday (Jan. 9). Under the tutelage of 2003 MAC Coach of the Year Brice Biggin, KSU returns eight letterwinners from the last years squad that finished second during the regular season as well as the MAC championships. Junior April Zentko (Poland, Ohio/Poland) is back to defend her MAC beam co-champion crown. Senior Jessie James (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg) looks to improve on her 14th-place finish on the all-around at the 2003 NCAA Central Regional. Junior Earline Feugill (Weston, Fla./Western) also returns after tying Kent States all-time career-high on floor with a 9.975, while junior Erika Linnersten (Cincinnati, Ohio/Finneytown) comes into her junior season as one of the top gymnasts in the region on bars and beam. Central Michigan University was voted to win the 2004 MAC Championship after bringing home the 2003 title in record fashion.The Golden Flashes open the 2004 season at the M.A.C. Center Sunday, Jan. 11, as they take on Wilson College at 1 p.m.
