KENT, Ohio Freshman forward Kimberly Dimitroff (Oakville, Ontario/Iroquois Ridge), of the Kent State University soccer team, was named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week for her performance in a win against Bowling Green and a draw with Toledo last week. The conference office announced the award today (Oct. 18).
Dimitroff scored three goals in the two games last week, giving her 13 on the year. In a 4-2 win against Bowling Green (Oct. 15), Dimitroff scored her first goal of the game, giving Kent State a 2-1 advantage and a lead it would not relinquish. Her second goal of the game secured the win for the Golden Flashes in the final minutes after Bowling Green had cut the lead to 3-2 with 10 minutes to play.
In a 1-1 tie with Toledo, Dimitroff scored Kent States only goal just before halftime. The goal tied her with Bowling Greens Kristy Coppes for the MAC lead.
With her first goal against Bowling Green, Dimitroff broke the Kent State single-season record for goals, which was held by two former players at 10 goals. Kelly Haggard first set the old record in 1998 and it was matched by Lauren Caminati in 2000.
Dimitroff is not only tied for the conference goals lead, but also is the outright leader in scoring with 13 goals and four assists for 30 points, three ahead of Coppes. On the year, Dimitroff has recorded three multiple-goal games and she set a school-record by scoring in four consecutive games to start the season.
The Golden Flashes, currently in fourth place in the Mid-American Conference standings, host MAC-leading Ohio, Friday, Oct. 22, at 3 p.m. at the KSU Soccer Field. Kent State then closes the MAC regular-season schedule Sunday, Oct. 24, against Marshall. KSU trails third-place Ball State by just a point, while leading Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan by the same margin.
