KENT, Ohio - The Kent State field hockey team (9-7, 7-2 MAC) is one more win shy of capturing its seventh Mid-American Conference regular-season championship after a 2-1 win today over the Ball State Cardinals (4-12, 4-5 MAC) in Muncie, Ind. Kate Perry and Kate McGowan each record one goal in leading the Flashes to victory.

If both Louisville (7-2 MAC) and Kent State win tomorrow, the two schools will share the regular-season title. If only one team wins, the other will claim the title outright. Kent State will face Central Michigan tomorrow at noon in Mount Pleasant while the Cardinals play at Miami tomorrow at 1 p.m.

In the event the two schools share the title, Louisville will be the No. 1-seed in the upcoming MAC tournament.

The game was a defensive effort early on as both teams failed to generate much offense until Ball State took a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute of play when Chantelle Isaac found Carla Chiampi on the left side off a penalty corner.

But all that did was fire up the Flashes as McGowan tied the game less than one minute later with her team-leading 13th goal of the year.

The score was remained tied going into halftime and stayed that way until Jessalyn Pack found Perry on the right side for the eventual game-winning goal in the 40th minute of play.

After holding Miami to just four shots last Saturday, the Golden Flash defense led by Pack, Jessica Schanz, Charlotte Muller and Linz Markwart bested that mark today, holding the Cardinals to just two shots.
