Leary Named MAC East Pitcher of the Week

KENT, Ohio ---Kent State University softball player Kate Leary (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington) has been named the first Mid-American Conference (MAC) East Division Pitcher of the Week for the 2004 season Tuesday (Feb. 24). This is Learys eighth weekly pitching accolade of her career.
Leary went 2-0 with a combined shutout at the UNC Triangle Classic Feb. 13-14. During a 2-0 win over Mercer University, she allowed only two hits and two walks in six innings, while striking out seven batters. In the 10-5 victory over North Carolina State University, Leary gave up two earned runs on two hits and three walks and struck out three in four innings. She posted a 1.40 earned-run average for the tournament.
On the season, she currently ranks second in the league in wins (2), third in opponent batting average (.143) and ninth in strikeouts (9).
The Kent State University softball team (2-1) will participate in the First Pitch Classic Feb. 27-29 in Charlotte, N.C.
