Softball Falls 4-3 in Championship Game

The Kent State University softball team (7-4) dropped a 4-3 decision to host Western Kentucky University (16-3) in the championship game of the Hilltopper Spring Fling March 14.
Senior Carrie Eneix (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington) launched a two-run bomb in the top of the second to put the Flashes on the board first.
WKUs Sam Hansen connected on a three-run home run in the third to put the Hilltoppers up 3-2.
In the sixth, senior Rachel Testa (Rootstown, Ohio/Hoban) evened the score with an RBI single, scoring senior Marci Ridenbaugh (Canton, Ohio/South).
Jessie Richardson scored the game-winning run for the Hilltoppers on a KSU error in the bottom of the sixth.
With the loss, Kent State finished second in the tournament. Senior Kelly Maehl (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy), junior Jodi Stevens (McCutchenville, Ohio/Mohawk) and freshman Brittney Robinson (LaGrange, Ohio/Keystone) were named to the 2004 Hilltopper Spring Fling All-Tournament Team.
Kent State will compete in the FAU Invitational March 19-21 in Boca Raton, Fla. The Flashes will face Mid-American Conference (MAC) rival University of Akron in the opening game at 10 a.m.
