Softball Goes 2-1 at Courtyard Marriott East Classic

KSU split the first pair of games Saturday (March 6) as Kent State fell to host University of Louisville 12-4. In that loss, senior Carrie Eneix (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington) went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run and a double, while classmate Marci Ridenbaugh (Canton, Ohio/South) went 2-for-4 with one RBI and a double.
The Flashes then responded to register four runs in the top of the fourth to give Kent State a 9-5 victory over the University of Tennessee-Martin. Ridenbaugh was 2-for-3 with three runs, one double and one RBI while junior Jodi Stevens (McCutchenville, Ohio/Mohawk) knocked a solo shot as she batted .750 (3-for-4).
Two freshman also made an impact as Megan Verde (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run and three runs-batted-in while Brittney Robinson (LaGrange, Ohio/Keystone) registered her first collegiate victory (1-0) in three innings.
Kent State capped the tournament with a 2-0 shut out over Iowa State University this afternoon (March 7). Senior Rachel Testa (Rootstown, Ohio/Hoban) went 2-for-3 with one RBI while Verde went 1-for-2, tallying a run and an RBI. Senior Kate Leary (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington) improved her record to 3-1 overall after she pitched a complete game two-hitter against the Cyclones.
The Golden Flashes, under the direction of head coach Karen Linder, will make a repeat trip back to the Bluegrass State March 12-14, to compete in the Hilltopper Spring Fling in Bowling Green, Ky.
