Softball Takes Game Two Against the Huskies

With one out and a runner on first in the bottom of the fourth, the Huskies Lauren VonHolst cracked a two-run bomb to put Northern Illinois on the scoreboard 2-0.
The Flashes fought right back in the top of the fifth as junior third baseman Jodi Stevens (McCutchenville, Ohio/Mohawk) registered her fourth triple of the season. Then junior rightfielder Abby Molnar (Loveland, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) scored Stevens on a single to left field. Then with two outs, senior shortstop Marci Ridenbaugh (Canton, Ohio/South) gave Kent State the lead as she notched a two-run double to left field, making the score 3-2.
Kent State scored again in the sixth as senior designated player/pitcher Tracie Logar (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) tallied an RBI single then advanced to second on an error by NIU. Freshman pitcher/designated hitter Brittney Robinson (LaGrange, Ohio/Keystone) then singled to bring Logar home for the 5-2 score.
The Huskies threatened in the bottom of the seventh after a Toni Del Toro single loaded the bases with two outs. With VonHolst looking to connect on another home run, she flied out to KSU second baseman Ashley Ball (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) ending the game.
Molnar led the Flashes going 2-for-3 at the plate with one run and one RBI. Robinson improved to 4-5 in the circle while Logar picked up her second save on the season.
Kent State will wrap up its series with Northern Illinois with a single game tomorrow at 1 p.m. CT.
