KENT, Ohio The Kent State University soccer team suffered the first blemish on its 2004 record, dropping a Mid-American Conference match 4-0 to Central Michigan at the KSU Soccer Field today (Sept. 17). With the loss, Kent State falls to 4-1-2 (1-1 MAC) on the year, while Central Michigan improved to 3-3-1 (1-0-1 MAC).
The Chippewas struck early in the contest and Kent State could never recover. Jacquie Lacek scored just 42 seconds into the contest, driving in a header off a free kick. Just 10 minutes later, CMU took a 2-0 lead as Alison Heydorns shot from the left wing found the side netting. KSU fell behind 3-0 just before halftime as Lacek picked up her second tally of the game, scoring off a rebound. Correy Cabrera rounded out the scoring in the 82nd minute.
Central Michigan dominated play for much of the contest, outshooting Kent State 16-7 and also attempting four corners to KSUs two. Sophomore keeper Alicia Fernandez made five saves for Kent State.
The Golden Flashes are next in action when they host Eastern Michigan at the KSU Soccer Field, Sunday, Sept. 19, at 1 p.m.
NOTES: The 4-0 loss is the worst for Kent State since a similar 4-0 defeat Oct. 5, 2001 ... Freshman Dana Neroni made her first career appearance in todays game.
