The Kent State field hockey team (2-1, 0-0) will end its four-game home stand Tuesday, Sept. 7 when it plays host to the Ohio State Buckeyes at 4 p.m. at Dix Stadium. Kent State freshman forward Kate McGowan has burst onto the scene for the Golden Flashes, scoring five goals in her first three games in leading Kent State to a 2-1 start. In the season-opening win over James Madison Aug. 28, the Ireland native scored two goals and came back two games later to score three goals in the win over Dartmouth Sept 4. Through three games, McGowan leads the Flashes in goals (5), points (10), shots (20) and shots-on-goal (11) among others.McGowan Honored By The MAC
McGowan was rewarded for her performance against James Madison as she was named last weeks Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week.In her first collegiate game, McGowan found the back of the goal twice, both times in the second half, as Kent State defeated James Madison, 2-0. McGowan scored the games first goal in the 36th minute before striking again in the 67th minute with her second tally of the game. She recorded six shots on the day, four on goal and played the entire 70 minutes.
Flashes Best Dartmouth
Kent State scored four unanswered goals en route to a 4-1 victory over Dartmouth Saturday afternoon at Dix Stadium. Freshman Kate McGowan scored three goals to lead the Flashes offensively while goalkeeper Linz Markwart recorded five saves in the win. McGowan finished the day with three goals on nine shots, six of which were on goal while senior Lauren Grandinetti tallied her first goal of the 2004 season. Five different Golden Flashes recorded assists in the win: Berber Rischen, Elizabeth Lahey, Liz Fettrow, Amy McGowan and Jessalyn Pack.A Peek At The Buckeyes
Ohio State is 1-2 thus far in 2004 with a 4-2 win vs. Vermont and losses at Maine (1-2) and Wake Forest (0-6). Yesenia Luces leads the Buckeyes with three goals and one assist for seven points. Goalkeeper Lindsay Williams (1-1) has played every minute in goal, recording 33 saves and allowing nine goals. The Buckeyes are coached by Anne Wilkinson (Delaware, 1987) who is in her ninth season in Columbus.Last season Ohio State compiled a 13-7 record, finishing third in the conference regular season and fourth in the 2003 Big Ten Tournament.

Kent State has been tabbed by the leagues head coaches to win the Mid-American Conference field hockey regular season championship with the University of Louisville.
