The top seven hitters from last years squad will be returning along with an experienced pitching staff that handled the majority of innings from last season. To compliment the returning veterans, Coach Scott Stricklin has recruited an impressive freshman class.
Several freshmen were able to establish themselves as guys to count on in the spring, said Stricklin, they will allow us to have a lot of options during the season.
The 10 newcomers that have been added to the roster will add depth at every position. They are an extremely athletic bunch that will look to make an immediate impact on the field. This group of talented student-athletes includes, RHP Steven Davis, RHP Dominique Rodgers, LHP Alan Morrison, OF Conor Egan, OF/INF Jared Humphreys, INF Ryan Mitchell, OF Jason Patton, IF Chris Tremblay, IF Brad Winter, and C Adam Whiting.
Leading the strong core of returning players are senior infielder Drew Saylor, senior right-handed pitcher Chad Wagler, and junior infielder Andrew Davis. These players were voted as team captains by their teammates this fall. Saylor batted .337 last season while leading the team in doubles, with 12. Wagler led the pitching staff with a 2.47 ERA, tallying six wins and four saves. Davis was solid at the plate with a .302 average and 42 RBIs.
Other returning offensive players for the flashes are C Kurt Eichorn (.307 AVG, 50 RBIs), OF Joe Tucker (.345 AVG, 48 runs, 69 hits), INF Emanuel Burris (.319 AVG, 30 stolen bases), INF Will Vazquez (.295 AVG, 3 triples), C Todd Balduf (.294 AVG, 2 triples), INF Greg Rohan (.283 AVG) and UTL Michael Obyc (.303 on-base percentage).
The pitching staff has many solid returnees as well; they include, RHP Jon Miller (2.70 ERA, 40 IP, 4 wins), RHP Phil Bojc (2.70 ERA, 51 IP), RHP Jason Seelman (3.45 ERA, 31.1 IP, 3 wins), LHP Ryan Davis (18.1 IP), RHP Steven Ross (21.2 IP, 3 wins), RHP Evan Smith (68 IP, 4 wins), RHP John Pacella (40 IP, 2 wins), RHP Reed Lamport (13 IP, 1 win), and RHP Chris Carpenter (49.1 IP, 3 wins).
I was very impressed with the position players and the depth that the freshman will provide, said Stricklin. We had an extremely successful fall season and are very excited to take the field in the spring.
