Caughey, Covas Earned MAC All-Tournament Team Honors

Golden Flashes pitcher, outfielder recognized for standout MAC Tournament performances
AVON, Ohio — Kent State baseball pitcher Ciaran Caughey and outfielder Alejandro Covas have been named to the 2026 MAC All-Tournament Team following the Golden Flashes' run in the Mid-American Conference Tournament, the league announced Saturday.
Caughey, a right-hander who entered the tournament having already established himself as one of the MAC's premier arms, delivered a dominant performance in Kent State's elimination game against Miami (Ohio) on May 22. The senior tossed seven innings, allowing just two hits and one earned run while striking out six and walking four in a 3-1 Kent State victory. His tournament ERA of 1.29 ranked among the best of any pitcher with qualifying innings in the field, and he finished the tournament 1-0 in his lone appearance, throwing 105 pitches. Caughey was one of just four pitchers with a minimum of five innings to post an ERA under 2.00 in the tournament.
Covas, a left fielder who started all four of Kent State's tournament games, was one of the most productive hitters in the field over the week. The outfielder hit .462 (6-for-13) with a double, a home run, three RBI, and an on-base percentage of .533 and a slugging percentage of .769. His .462 average tied for second-best in the tournament among players with at least 10 plate appearances.
Covas' best performance came in a pivotal contest against Western Michigan on May 22, when he went 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, powering the Golden Flashes to a victory that extended their tournament run.
Caughey and Covas join a long list of Golden Flashes recognized for postseason excellence under head coach Jeff Duncan, who guided Kent State to its 13th 40-win season in program history.
