The Flashes open Friday (March 18) against Mid-American Conference(MAC) rival Northern Illinois University (9-6) at 11 a.m.KSU-PITT DOUBLEHEADER CANCELLED: Kent States doubleheader at theUniversity of Pittsburgh scheduled for Wednesday, March 16, was cancelleddue to inclement weather and unplayable field conditions. No rescheduleddate has been announced.SCOUTING THE UCF TOURNAMENT: The UCF Tournament, hosted by the Universityof Central Florida (23-16-1), features the host Golden Knights, KSU, No. 20Georgia Tech (23-6), Charleston Southern University (9-22) and MAC foeNorthern Illinois. The Flashes will face the Huskies Friday, at 11 a.m. before taking onthe 20th-ranked Yellow Jackets at 3 p.m. On Saturday, KSU battlesCharleston Southern at 9 a.m. and the Golden Knights at- 1 p.m. Bracketplay begins on Sunday.SERIES HISTORY: In the all-time series against the tournament field, KentState is 3-0 against Charleston Southern and 9-15 against NIU. This alsowill signal the Flashes first meeting against UCF and Georgia Tech.THE COACHES: Karen Linder (Otterbein 80) enters her ninth season at thehelm of the Golden Flashes. Donna Martin (NIU 81) has coached at her almamater for 11 seasons. Ehren Earlywine (Westminster 94) has been the coachat Georgia Tech for two seasons. Charleston Southerns coach JoyceWellhoefer (Wisconsin-Whitewater 80) is in her 1st season and ReneeLuers-Gillispie (West Texas State 84) has been at UCF for four seasons.ORLANDO WEATHER: The opening day of the tournament calls for a high of 69degrees under partly cloudy skies. The weekend predicts warm temperaturesin the 70s with a high of 77 on Sunday.
