Shearer, a business/finance major with a 3.96 grade-point-average, helped lead the Golden Flashes to a share of the MAC East Division championship and trip to the 2005 MAC Tournament title game where she scored a MAC tournament, regular-season and Kent State record with 44 points.
Shearer enjoyed a career year, finishing with 17.2 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. The two-time first team All-MAC selection scored in double figures in all but one game, had seven double-doubles and eight games with 20 or more points. Shearer is fourth in the conference in scoring and ranks among the league leaders in seven different MAC statistical categories.
She also became the 18th player in program history to record 1,000 career points with 15 points at Marshall Feb. 2 and is currently 16th on the all-time KSU scoring list with 1,176 points heading into her senior season.
Earlier this month Shearer was named to the 2005 Second Team Academic All-America Womens Basketball Team presented ESPN The Magazine. Last season, Shearer was a third team academic All-America selection, becoming just the third player in program history to claim national honors.
The 11-member Academic All-MAC team consists of Akrons Jessie Crooks, Ball States Kelsey Corbin and Kate Endress, Bowling Greens Ali Mann, Central Michigans Erin Kuhl and Casey Manning, Eastern Michigans Erika Ford and Sarah VanMetre, Kent States Lindsay Shearer, Ohios Liz Brown and Western Michigans Carrie Moore.
To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50% of the contests for that particular sport. First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
