Meet time is slated 1 p.m. inWVU Coliseum.SCOUTING THE TIGERS: Auburn placed fourth at the Masters Classic lastweekend in Nebraska. In that meet, Julie Dwyer tied for third on theall-around (39.075). Jeff Thompson (Kentucky 95) is in his sixth season atAuburn.SCOUTING THE SPARTANS: Michigan State is coming off wins over Pittsburgh,Bowling Green and James Madison last week. Chayla Hill was MSUs topperformer, winning vault with a 9.800 and registering a team-best 9.800 onfloor. MSU will face Central Michigan, Kentucky and Missouri March 4 beforemeeting KSU. Kathie Klages (Central Michigan 77) has been the mentor ofthe Spartans for 15 seasons.SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS: West Virginia defeated Rutgers and Bridgeport inrecent action. Jessica Bartgis led the Mountaineers by claiming titles onbars (9.775) and floor (9.850). Linda Burdette (West Virginia 74) has beenthe head coach at WVU for 31 seasons.SERIES RECORD: This will be the first meeting between Kent State andAuburn. The Flashes trail both Michigan State (19-10) and West Virginia(15-10) in the all-time series, but KSU took a 190.800-190.525 win over theMountaineers Jan. 16.GYMNASTICS IMPROVES TO 4-1 IN THE MAC WITH WIN OVER NIU: Kent Statemaintained its hold of second-place in the Mid-American Conference (MAC)after defeating Northern Illinois University 194.800-193.250 Feb. 27 at theConvocation Center in DeKalb, Ill. Senior Erika Linnersten (Cincinnati, Ohio/Finneytown) led the way forKent State, taking her fourth beam title of the year with a score of 9.850.Linnersten also placed second on vault (9.750) while tying for second onbars (9.750) with freshman Kristin Peters (Maineville, Ohio/Kings). Other KSU event winners were junior Carrie Mayle (Fremont, Ohio/St.Josephs), who won her second straight vault crown in as many weeks with a9.850 on the event. Freshman Phylicia Roberston (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln)also claimed her third straight floor title with a career-high tying 9.925. Rounding out the Flashes top-three finishers are senior April Zentko(Poland, Ohio/Poland), who tied for second on beam with a 9.825 whileMayle, sophomore Julie Huynh (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) and freshmanAlyssa Zambryckij (Casselberry, Fla./Lyman all tied for third on floor witha 9.800 each.MAYLE NAMED MAC CO-GYMNAST OF THE WEEK: Junior gymnast Carrie Mayle(Fremont, Ohio/St. Josephs) was selected the Mid-American Conference (MAC)Co-Gymnast of the Week for the second straight week Feb. 21. Mayle sharesthe honor with Central Michigan Universitys Sara Burtinsky. Mayle helped Kent State split a pair of meets and won her thirdall-around title this past weekend. In KSUs loss to Central Michigan Feb.18, Mayle placed second on vault (9.825) and finished third on theall-around (38.925). During the Flashes win over SE Missouri State Feb. 20,Mayle won vault (9.800) and the all-around (38.975) for her third title inas many weeks. This is the third consecutive week that a Kent State gymnast hasreceived a MAC weekly honor. Last week, Mayle and senior Erika Linnersten(Cincinnati, Ohio/Finneytown) were named MAC Gymnast and Co-Specialist ofthe Week, respectively while freshman Kristin Peters (Maineville,Ohio/Kings) earned MAC Specialist of the Week honors Feb. 7.MAC STANDINGS: In the latest Mid-American Conference gymnastics release(March 1), several Flashes rank among the individual best list in theleague. Freshman Kristin Peters (Maineville,Ohio/Kings) ranks second on beam (9.925) and is tied for second on bars(9.900) while sophomore Julie Huynh (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) ranks tiedfor eighth on bars (9.800) and tied for 15th on floor (9.850). Senior Earline Feugill (Weston, Fla./Western) is tied for eighth onvault (9.800). Freshman Jill Kowalski (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North)is tied for 11th on bars (9.825). On beam, sophomore Natalie Strasser(Hamilton, N.Y./Hamilton) is tied for fourth (9.900) and freshman AmyPresan (Scottsdale, Ariz./Horizon) is tied for seventh (9.850). On the MACs top team performance list, Kent State has the best beam(49.025), floor (49.450) and ties for the top bars (49.125) scores in theleague.
