HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Kent State second baseman Drew Saylor hit three home runs and batted in seven runs to help the Golden Flashes salvage game three of the series by a 20-6 margin.
Saylor hit a two-run shot in the fifth and two more in the seventh inning for his best outing of the season. Kent State (17-12, 3-4 MAC) hit five home runs on the day and scored a season-high 20 runs.
Greg Rohan started the run in the fourth, hitting a three-run homer. KSU's runs in the fifth came off an RBI single by Andrew Davis and Saylor's two-run blast. In the sixth, five runs scored on five singles, a walk and an error. After Emmanuel Burriss' RBI in the seventh, the Golden Flashes put eight more runs on the board in the eighth.
Drew Saylor opened that inning up with his second homer of the day. After the next three batters reached base, pinch hitter Will Vazquez hit a grand slam to bring in the fifth run of the inning. After Vazquez's shot, Herd second baseman Aaron Jamieson took the mound for his first pitching appearance and started off strong, retiring two of the first three batters he faced. He was not as lucky later on in the inning. After allowing a single and a walk, Drew Saylor knocked in three more runs with a homer to right to give Kent a 20-0 lead.
Evan Smith (2-3) picked up the win, allowing no runs on six hits over 6.0 innings of work while striking out three.
