Softball Gears Up For Marshall Rematch at the 2005 MAC Tournament

The Kent State University softball team (25-25, 10-11 MAC), the No. 8 seed, will look to even the score against No. 1 Marshall University (35-18-20-4 MAC) Wednesday, May 11 for its fourth meeting in as many games during the opening day of the 2005 Mid-American Conference (MAC) Softball Tournament. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. Live stats will be available during the entire tournament by logging on to www.mac-sports.com.

SCOUTING THE MAC TOURNAMENT FIELD: This years MAC Tournament field has expanded from six to eight teams for a four-day, double elimination tournament at Firestone Stadium in Akron.

Marshall is the No. 1 seed in the tournament, followed by No. 2 Central Michigan (16-6), No. 3 Miami (13-8), No. 4 Western Michigan (14-9), No. 5 Buffalo (11-8), No. 6 Bowling Green (12-10), No. 7 Eastern Michigan (11-12) and No. 8 Kent State.

The Golden Flashes went 5-7 against the tournament field this season, excluding Bowling Green and Central Michigan.

SCOUTING THE THUNDERING HERD: Marshall is led by Rachel Folden, who leads the MAC in doubles (19) and RBI (54) and ranks second in hits (69) and batting average (.415). Randi Nielson leads the Herds pitching unit with a 2.19 ERA and 110 Ks. Shonda Stanton (UNC-Greensboro, 95) is in her sixth season at Marshall.

MAC TOURNAMENT HISTORY: This is Kent States second straight appearance in the MAC Tournament and its seventh overall. The Golden Flashes hold a 9-13 all-time record in the league tournament.

AKRON WEATHER: The first day of the MAC Tournament calls mostly sunny skies with a high of 78 degrees, however, temperatures will fall to the mid-60s with a threat of scattered thunderstorms by the tournaments end. Information courtesy of www.weather.com.
