Tucker Selected to Play in Great Lakes All-Star Game

KENT, Ohio-- Kent State University senior-to-be Joe Tucker (Canton, Ohio/Canton Central Catholic) has been selected to play in the Great Lakes Summer League All-Star game this Sunday, July 17 at Bob Wren Stadium in Athens, Ohio. Tucker, an outfielder for the Stark County Terriers, will play for the Red team along with four of his summer-league teammates.SS Emmanuel Burriss (Washington, D.C./Wilson) has 27 stolen bases this season for the East Division-leading Orleans Cardinals of the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League, tying the team record- just 22 games into the season! At the halfway point, he is within striking distance of the league record of 48. 3B/P Andrew Davis (Chillicothe, Ohio/Zanes Trace) leads his team, the Keene Swampbats of the New England Collegiate Baseball League, with a .341 average and 18 runs batted in. He is the leagues third-leading hitter and also ranks second in hits and third in RBI. C Will Vazquez (Berea, Ohio/Berea) has not made an error in 132 total chances for the Swampbats, who lead the NECBL East Division with a 17-6 record. P Chad Wagler (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) and 18th round selection of the San Francisco Giants in this past Junes draft, is 2-1 with a 2.88 ERA in four starts for Stark County, including a pair of complete games. The third KSU player on Stark Countys roster, P Ryan Davis (Rootstown, Ohio/Southeast) has appeared in four games, but has not posted a decision. 2B/SS Drew Saylor (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth/Cincinnati) has returned for his third year with the Wisconsin Woodchucks of the Northwoods League and currently is batting .354 with two home runs and 21 RBI. C Todd Balduf (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) has handled a Columbus All-American staff that leads the Great Lakes League in pitching with a 2.97 team ERA. He also has added a home run and nine RBI at the plate. 1B Andy Hargrove, a 47th round draft pick of the Seattle Mariners, has begun his professional career with the teams Rookie League affiliate in Peoria, Az. Hargrove is currently hitting .347 with five doubles, a homer and 12 RBI in just 12 games for the Arizona League Mariners.
Tucker, who was named to the All-Mid-American Conference and ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV second teams this season, is hitting .326 with 12 stolen bases for the Terriers.
