KENT, Ohio Corbie Yee put an end to the mad scramble in the front of the net, and in the process ended the Kent State University women's soccer team's school-record 10-match home winning streak, lifting Bowling Green State University to a 1-0 overtime victory at the KSU Soccer Field.
Yee, the 2005 Mid-American Conference Newcomer of the Year, scored her first goal of the season 5:25 into the extra period. Danielle Cygan's corner kick was batted around by several players from both teams before Yee snuck the ball across the goal line.
Up until the game-winner, Kent State (7-7-1, 4-3 MAC) had controlled the flow of the action and had several scoring opportunities in the second half. The Flashes' best opportunity came 15 minutes into the second half, but Kimberly Dimitroff shot wide in a one-on-one situation with BGSU keeper Christy Zabek. KSU had another opportunity just miss with three minutes to go when the Falcons (7-8-0, 4-3 MAC) failed to clear the ball deep in their own end, but Lisa Kurz's shot was deflected over the crossbar by Zabek.
Zabek finished with seven saves to earn her first win of the season (1-0). Alicia Fernandez (7-7-1) made four saves for the Golden Flashes, who lost at home for the first time since Sept. 23, 2005.
The contest marked a rematch of the 2005 MAC Tournament championship game, which ended in a 0-0 tie. Bowling Green eventually claimed the championship on penalty kicks 3-2.
Kent State is at home again on Sunday, Oct. 15, when it hosts the first-place University of Toledo at 1 p.m.
