Flashes to Play a Pair of Key MAC Games

KENT, OHIO The Kent State University field hockey team will play a pair of Mid-American Conference games this weekend. The Golden Flashes travel to Mount Pleasant, Mich. on Saturday (Oct. 7) to square off with Central Michigan University and return home the next day (Oct. 8) to face MAC leader Ohio University at Murphy Mellis Field.
• Kent State (4-8, 1-2 MAC) tallied a season-high six goals Saturday (Sept. 30) in a 6-1 victory over Saint Louis University at the Anheuser-Busch Center. Five different Flashes scored in the contest.
• Senior forward Kate Perry currently leads the MAC with seven goals scored and 19 points on the season. Her five assists also lead the team. Perry has racked up 22 career goals in four seasons.
• Joining Perry in the MAC's top 10 point leaders are Elizabeth Lahey (5g, 2a) and Charlotte Muller (4g, 4a) with 12 points apiece.
• The Golden Flashes won both regular season meetings with the Chippewas last year, but Central defeated KSU 2-0 at the MAC Tournament last season in Mount Pleasant. Current CMU keeper Danielle Frank posted the shutout in goal en route to a championship game appearance.
• KSU has won nine straight regular season meetings with the Bobcats. Ohio last defeated the Flashes during the 2003 MAC Tournament.
• Kent State's string of eight straight MAC wins in 2005 began with victories over Central Michigan and Ohio on the same weekend.
• The Bobcats have recorded shutouts in four of their last five games and have not allowed more than one goal in six of its last seven games.
• Junior midfielder Charlotte Muller was named MAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week on Monday (Oct. 2). Muller registered two goals and two assists in two games last week.
• Central Michigan won five of its first seven games of the season with victories over: St. Louis, Syracuse, Colgate, Maine and Northwestern. The Chippewas have since suffered a pair of one-goal losses in conference play.
• Liz Fettrow scored both goals in KSU's 2-1 victory at Central Michigan last season. Fettrow also scored the game's only goal in 1-0 win over Ohio last season at Murphy Mellis Field.
• Senior goalkeeper Linz Markwart currently ranks sixth in the nation in saves per game (8.56). She has made 77 stops in nine games this season and 304 in her career.
• Central Michigan's Danielle Frank is tied with Markwart with 77 saves on the year.
• Seven different Flashes have scored goals this season, including five players with two or more scores.
• CMU's Samantha Sandham led the Chippewas with five points last week. She is currently second on the team with 10 points (3g, 4a).
• Kelly Jordan leads the Chippewas in goals (6) and ranks second in the MAC with 15 points.
• Torrie Albini leads Ohio with 14 points and six assists. Albini also has a MAC-leading three game-winning goals on the year.
• The Coetzee twins have combined for 15 Bobcat points on the year. Estienne Coetzee leads Ohio with five goals and Rachelle Coetzee has two goals and an assist.
• Central Michigan is 3-1 at home this season, while Ohio is 3-2 on the road.
• After going wnless against non-conference opponents in 2005, Kent State has won three non-league games this season.
